Laura Cibilich, Auckland

Laura is a graphic designer with over 8 years experience. Born and bred in Auckland, Aotearoa, she has worked in both design and advertising agencies coming up with creative solutions for local and international clients. Laura set up her own design studio, Designstein, in 2008 and has a particular interest in branding and typography. She loves the smell of fresh print, enjoys working on her photography skills, is involved in the Auckland art scene, and thinks she was a fish in a former life.www.designstein.co.nz

Philip Kelly

Philip Kelly studied Visual Communication Design at Wellington Polytechnic. His working output encompasses graphic design, art direction, typography and photography. His 20 year career has moved him from New Zealand, to the UK, the USA, China and back.Philip’s original typefaces and type direction have graced the pages of a number of publications including Rolling Stone Magazine, Paper Magazine, Communication Arts and the 2004 and 2005 Graphis Design Annuals. His design has garnered numerous international awards and his photography earned him a gold pencil at the 2005 One Show as a contributor to Big Magazine’s Detroit issue. He has exhibited photography in dealer galleries and artist run spaces in New Zealand and New York City.
After 12 years working abroad Philip returned to New Zealand in late 2010 and continues to work for local and international clients.
Tamara Nyholt, Auckland

Tamara is a photographer and graphic designer on permanent loan from Canada. Her youth was frittered away on a number of years creating retail work for companies like Sony, Mulberry, Estee Lauder and Chanel while battling crowds and bad influences in the bright lights of London. She spent a couple of years as a senior designer on government projects and publications back in the homeland before eventually settling in Auckland.
Tamara has been focusing on art directing for magazine publishing for the last five years and has worked with a number of Auckland publishers. She divides her time between teaching graphic design at the Media Design School in Auckland and running her design business, Maisonette Design Studio. (www.maisonette.co.nz)

Andrea Wilkinson, Hamilton

Andrea Wilkinson was a Senior Lecturer in design at the Waikato Institute of Technology for six years before moving to Belgium to take up a position at the Media & Design Academy in Genk in January, 2010.
Andrea has worked in a variety of design positions, including in-house art departments, agencies and Internet start-ups, as well as utilising design in an arts context. She double-majored in Art and English at university and went on to receive her Post-graduate degree in Transmedia from Sint-Lukas in Brussels, Belgium. In 2004 she moved to New Zealand to lecture in design in Hamilton. Her research interests include: the response/ability of graphic designers to respond to non-traditional design problems, using text as a vehicle/medium for exchange and design process.
Hayden Raw, Auckland

Educated at Otago University Hayden made the move to Auckland shortly after graduation. His background is in game and interactive design and development. Following recession inspired circumstances he made the move into the world of brand engagement through digital mediums. Hayden now uses tools like social media to create brand association strategies and campaigns that allow his clients to effectively target and interact with their customers.
Hayden is Managing Director of Hamr Ltd and The Common Room Ltd. He works as a digital engagement strategist for The Common Room as well as other advertising, marketing and design agencies.
James McGoram, Auckland

James is a designer, writer and reviewer living in Auckland. Originally trained as an architect, James turned his passion for words into a job when he created Evasion Arts magazine, and later an associated website, late last century. Editing, designing and producing his own magazine for two years, he learned some valuable lessons about design, the hard way, in a low-budget environment.
Hoping to make a living from his new skills, he formed a specialist website development studio in 2001. Messiah Studio has a track record of high technical achievement, and collaborates with graphic designers to produce beautifully tailored websites, online business applications and more.

She explores the intersection of communication, culture and creativity from her blog Random Specific (www.randomspecific.com).She has taught design at universities globally and has written for the Guardian Weekly, Monocle magazine and contributes to Osocio (http://osocio.org/),which aggregates social advertising and non-profit campaigns from around the globe.
Laurent Antonczak, Auckland

Currently Laurent lectures New Media and Visual Communication at AUT University’s School of Art & Design in Auckland, playing a key role in managing and leading the Honours and Masters students in the Graphic Strand of the postgraduate department. Laurent also coordinate, with computer scientist Andrew Ensor, CoLab ‘Mobile, Spatial and Locative Media’ research group.
Though involved in education, Laurent still concurrently leads and manages his creative company ATZ119 Limited, founded in 1998. Offering New Technology, Graphic Design & Communication Strategies this facet of his work allows Laurent to keep his hand in his professional practice and maintain strong industry links.
