The Curvy Series has been around since 2003 and each year features the latest in female artists, designers and illustrators. The 2009 edition saw 1600 entries from which 120 were chosen and six artists were featured.
Among the featured artists New Zealand sees two of its own profiled.
Kaitlin Beckett is originally from Auckland, New Zealand, she studied Art History and Literature at Canterbury University before moving to Melbourne in 2001 and training in graphic and web design. Her work is multi-media and the stars of her illustrations are a whimsical cast of ‘beasts’. You can see more of her work online at www.a-curious-bestiary.com.
Fashion Photographer and Illustrator Kelly Thompson is from Wellington, New Zealand. Kelly did a Bachelor of Design at Massey University Wellington, with illustration papers and majored in photography. Besides Kelly’s amazing photography, her illustrations have appeared in magazines such as Pulp, Karen, Fluro, Yen and Lucire. Her work featured in Curvy Six focuses on people, in particular fashion models, with the use of simple lines and alluring eyes that stare out at you from the pages.
