End of year wrap party: November 18th 2009

Join us to celebrate the end of the year and start of summer!

Come along, wind down and catch-up with your friends and colleagues.

As befits a setting such as The Ponsonby Social Club the emphasis will be on the social aspect of Design Assembly.

VJ Matt Robinson will open the evening with a half hour set of music and visuals followed by a short conversation around VJing – feel free to email Matt any questions you’d like him to answer on the night beforehand. (durtymac@gmail.com)

Laurent will showcase graphics designed specially for the mobile phone and while you are mingle take part in the interactive exhibition going on around you – The Social Club Poll.

Design Assembly will be followed after 8pm by more live music with The Ponsonby Social Club Wednesday night DJ set.

A-Z of VJing – Matt Robinson
VJ Matt Robinson will talk about various methods of producing content specifically for vjing with, different types of VJ software available, what else is there after vjing, how to get into vjing, what are vj’s really worth, methods of playing visuals back to audiences, the beauty of using live cameras during a set and more.

The m-community: are you part of it? – Laurent Antonczak
Laurent Antonczak will present some key innovative technologies and applications in visual communication specifically associated with mobile phone. This presentation will focus on identifying promising emerging technologies for mobile, especially through a creative perspective and collaborative process. The presentation is designed to stimulate and to inspire your creative understanding of the future by using current international and national examples.

An interactive series: Social Club Poll – curated by  Joanna Alpe
This series of works literally begs the question.

A series of questions that are hidden throughout the building, inquiring into peoples personal experience with crisis – economically and otherwise. This survey scavenger hunt seeks to form a gauge on what Aucklands designers really think.

Originally part of the Design In Crisis exhibition held from September 18-23rd 2009 at Archilles House. Graphic designers Livia Lima, Kylie Phillips, Vincent Thornhill, Ralph Matthews, Renee Lam and Joanna Alpe presented their response to the current economic crisis.
