Conversations on June 30th 2010

Designer by day, designer by night – Zoe Ikin
Zoe Ikin is a graphic designer by day, jewellery designer and maker by night. She’s gone from just a couple of tools and a piece of silver a few years ago, to launching a range in World in late 2009. Hear Zoe talk about her foray into the commercial world – both the pretty bits and the not-so.

How to design and not commit suicideDaniel Gordon
Dan Gordon is an Auckland based designer, with a long list of clients including the likes of Nike Inc., Flip Skateboards, LVMH, Remix Magazine, Pilot Magazine, Kevin Garnett, The Stunt Guild of New Zealand, Illicit Streetwear, and an array of other local and international companies. Daniel will talk about how he started out, the route he taken to get to where he is today, show some recent work and discuss using personal projects to make money, get hired, and not commit suicide.

Vinyl Flashbacks Peter McLennan
The LP cover is a dying artform. Heck, it’s dead. Ten years ago, people designed for CD covers, now they design covers with iTunes in mind – that’s working to the size of a postage stamp. Look at all the fantastic design we lost when the LP fell out of favour. And who’s to blame? Steve Jobs.

Tees

Gordon Harris will have a selection of new release books for sale with a 10% discount on the night and limited edition T-shirts ($29.99) celebrating their 35th birthday.
Payment by cheque or cash.

MMMM Beer

Covers inspired by Bluenote with detailed anaylsis of the fonts used and their accuracy or lack thereof… ah, font nerds. Love it.
